I believe not only will Optimus Bot be pushing parts in the factory as stated in the January 26 quarterly audio. But its real future may be for space travel too.

Seems our SciFi movies have shown there seems to be a Robot or synthetic type of Artificial intelligence also along for space exploration.

I think Elon got really pissed when he had to hire people to assemble seats. He could not figure out how to make a simple machine do it. I remember this was part of the learning curve for the M3 ramp. It has been burning at him for 4 years.

The first optimus bot will assemble seats.

A mentor.

Managers worry about stupid shit like whether you are on time or slacking off. If you are working with 6 bots, you are just helping show them what task needs to be done.
lazy / dumb employees think that being late or slacking off isn't a big deal.

My backup plan is investing in the most successful robotics company on the planet… Tesla.

If Robots take over the world, at least there will be a few years in the middle where I will be able to enjoy the fruits of their ubiquity.
I think future CT owners might be interested in watching this sort YouTube video by Dave Lee (see enclosed link) that highlights the emerging moral issues related to the Tesla Bots (new humanoid robot being designed by Tesla starting this year and likely build in 2023) and the urgency of getting first into this market by "good" robots and keeping on top of the development.

Ref: Is this Elon Musk’s new secret plan? (Ep. 515) - YouTube

I spotted one on this frozen river.

Interesting video. I am a bit of a science fiction freak. I am confused about how replacing most human functions is good for society and how transforming the economy by eliminating labor is actually good for Tesla or the world, or humanity.

Davids argument was that we should trust Tesla to be the vanguard to help write good regulations to prevent a terminator style take over because someone else would do it worse. Hmm???

1.) Writing the base principle type code such that an all powerful AI couldn't just rewrite it is probably really hard, there are a lot of value judgements. I am thinking Isaac Asimov 3 laws of robotics here. What is harm? Physical, phycological, long term/short term?

2.) If >50% of use are on a Universal Basic Income because Bots do our jobs better than we can, what do we do.... make babies....enter VR world....sit back and let the elite run the world?? Who can afford to buy the next generation robot?

3.) The new economy would be all about resources in materials and energy. So the wealth and power is now in the hands of Corporations even more than now.

4.) UBI is basically socialism for the people on it......isn't Elon a free market capitalist? Who decides UBI benefits?.....Government?

I am fine with AI robots sorting garbage or preparing a nutritious meal or managing functions in the background but we need to be very careful.

Without purpose we get depressed.
Without choice we get depressed.
Without opportunity we get depressed.
Without pain we don't see pleasure
Without struggle we don't appreciate comfort

What is the point. So many problems.

These are all valid questions. A lot will have to be reorganized. The whole financial models will need to be revised. Elon did acknowledged that some form of UBI (Universal Basic Income) would likely be needed. Perhaps the GDP would grow so much as to reduce the need to tax individuals and appropriately tax corporation and Tesla Bot owners and/or employers.

I thinks that the robots that Tesla are considering are going to come up no matter what. If it is not Tesla it will be other government or businesses. Dave's point is lets control the robot market and work with government to best develop robots that are inline with our values. Elon often stated that robots needs to serve humanity for the good of humanity. Dave sees how dominating the market and this new technology could give an edge over the development of other less well intended developers.

I see things might evolved differently.

Without purpose we get depressed. ==> I trust that we will find new purposes.
Without choice we get depressed. ==> We will be facing so many new choices in an evolving environment.
Without opportunity we get depressed. ==> It is hard to think these will not be a myriad of new opportunity (e.g., going to the Moon, Mars and etc.)
Without pain we don't see pleasure ==> "Pain" will come in other new forms. As a retiree I no longer of having to put up with certain "pains" associated to my old job, but I have new ones to attend to.
Without struggle we don't appreciate comfort ==> New struggles will appear in an emerging brave new world.

I hope we humans are able to make the future an even better world. We will need to be attentive to its evolution. Technology should help us be free. It should not be used to enslave and control us. Anyone or anything trying to do that should be facing the rule of law and justice in our democratic societies. I see robots as collaborators. The relationship between humans and robots will need to evolved over time. We have to make this work as technology has/is and will be with us. The philosophy of science and other field of philosophy can give us some guidance as to what we need to consider and fix as we go along. I have written a master research paper with the following title. It help me getting my Master degree.
We should trust Artificial Intelligent (AI) [e.g., FSD, Autonomous robots, etc] to make moral decisions under certain preconditions.

Work to eat isn't purpose.
No choice in work isn't choice.

Socialism is just a boogyman word here. UBI allows basics to be covered... so artists can art, people can start families. Businesses can be started.

Who chooses? The people do. We the People are 'the government'.

There is no conflict between capitalism, democracy, and socialism on this topic - good capitalism needs a market, it needs healthy workers, it needs regulation to keep competitors honest.

The conflict is from individualism, rentiers, who don't want to share their landed status squeezing value out of those less fortunate. When someone says 'free market' they amazingly seem to not mean a regulated market where competition is kept honest by regulation.

Elon supports a UBI, universal healthcare - and his beef with regulation is that it doesn't shift based upon goals. Regulation needs to have purpose, and its result needs to be studied, and it needs to do what it's meant to do. And it needs to do that out in the open.

I don't view socialism a fear word. I think we need UBI for people who work and contribute but at low wage. UBI with robots doing the work is different.

With misinformation and distraction and Citizens united and worse the tribalism, I fear "we the people" as government" is not happening.

AI robots are going to be a massive game changer economically and socially. I think we need to sort out the social aspect before we truly embrace them.

Hopefully we won't have to worry for another 5 years.

My feeling on UBI (& more important universal healthcare) and robots is it frees people to do the kind of creative and interesting things they would otherwise enjoy doing instead of the sort of boring/ mind numbing/ unrewarding tasks which many people are forced to do to pay bills.

I enjoy writing and building trails. Neither job is financially stable enough or has the benefits I need to pay my bills and take care of my health. I am fortunate that I have a job which I generally enjoy and find rewarding. Lots of people don’t have that luxury and even myself I would prefer something else.

I think most people would still work to earn more than subsistence, also I think there would be a lot more volunteerism, much like you see retirees more likely to volunteer. Also, a lot of people could handle small jobs/ tasks, but aren’t focused/ self motivated enough to show up at McDonalds 5 days a week to earn enough money for not much of anything.

Unfortunately, in previous generations our society doesn’t seem to recognize productivity increase should result in reduction in obligatory work.

I often think about how life and death would be programmed into a car.

A lady and a stroller darts into the street at the last second. The car can either hit them or the geriatric guy on the sidewalk., or run into the concrete jersey barrier. Assuming no other physical choice. What to do.

Interesting subject. If CTOC is around, you should consider adding it to the forum.

I want this future, Elon gives me hope and my niece and nephew tell me it's a certainty to happen but i have serious doubts about being alive to see it.
Tesla is in my eyes one of the bright spots in a time of uncertainty and suckage. Hopefully you live to see the bots born into the world.

PS: Are your niece and nephew named Falafel and Waffle? Great people.

Awesome name or alias. Makes me hungry.
