I sincerely hope Tesla does NOT merge with any other company or SELL itself!

Witness other companies inability or unwillingness to be as creative as Tesla.

It would be a LOSE-LOSE proposition for many products including the Cybertruck.

I think they are looking at this as more of a way to sell some of their products, like for example all the batteries Tesla is going to be making. Also, they just said they are open to the Idea. They have done it before. This would most likely help Tesla continue to make a profit and transition the world to sustainable energy. The ultimate goal.

Fake news, saw the interview and Elon was just being polite answering a question diplomatically. No scenario where it would make any sense for Tesla to merge with existing OEM.
A battery producer, raw materials company, bleeding edge tech company maybe.

Well, if they bought zero, to produce their cyber quads, I could see that, or maybe another electric vehicle manufacturer if one comes up with a great innovation.
Otherwise, I agree, Elon was being polite and it makes little sense for Tesla since converting ab existing factory to one optimized for Tesla is probably more costly than building a new terafactory.

Zero doesn't make quads, they make motorcycles. Which Tesla isn't interested in. There's alot of technology Tesla has that Zero would love to have but... It ain't happening.

At one point in time the automotive part of Tesla will need to expand into new brands (I hope through acquisition or partnerships). The technical knowledge of Tesla will eventually become too much for just one brand.

I hope they NEVER take up with someone else. IMO they are good at thinking out of the BOX. WE DON'T want them (Emperor Elon) being held back. :)
More benefits for us with these new approaches.

What? Emperor Elon? Oh....Kay.

Seriously, if someone came begging, pleading, I would only see a small, super highend company (like McLaren?) maybe being someone Musk might consider...

I do not see Ford, GM, Fiat, VW, or Toyota having swallowed enough pride/face to ask...

We’re expecting their solar division to be up for sale on or around the end of Q2 2021
You think Tesla will sell their solar division? I could see them spinning it out to a wholly owned subsidiary, but I do not think they would sell it.

There is so much that having the solar technology and manufacturing that pairs well (buzz word synergy) with the residential battery and SpaceX.

I would be shocked if Tesla just sold their solar PV business to another company.

Tesla is now a publicly traded corporate giant. It's function is to produce value for its shareholders. As such its board must consider any potentially profitable merger or acquisition put before it. There are legal firms that make their money by monitoring this sort of thing. If they see a board failing to consider M&A they will try to line up shareholders to sue.

Telsa has already acquired several companies e.g. Maxwell.

If these legacy automakers continue down the dead end road they're on, their value will drop like a stone. They have assets and if they disappear and Tesla needs rapid growth in areas of the world these assets are. It makes sense.
