  1. Tesla opens first ten Supercharger Stations to other brands

I guess you haven't been following Rivian Forum recently. Posts are pouring in reporting problems of various degree with the CCS network in general - not just EA though they get their share of black eyes too. In many of the gripes the user eventually got a charge but after extensive interaction...
  2. Why Level 2 around-town charging is needed...

Most of the non-Tesla stations seem to have some sort of RFID card. Fiddling with that isn't really much of a problem (relative to having had to open the frunk and fish out the CHAdeMO adapter). What is frustrating is if you can't find the RFID card.
  3. Why Level 2 around-town charging is needed...

Yea, that's me but I checked and my Alma Mater's Savoyards seems to have existed well into this century.
  4. Why Level 2 around-town charging is needed...

Or by any G&S fan! Peers: Our high prestige you can't assail with vile cannaille Fairies: That word is French P: Distinction ebbs before a herd of lowly plebs F: A Latin word P: 'Twould fill with joy and madness stark the hoi polloi F: A Greek remark. F: A Latin word, a Greek remark and one...
  5. Ford Mach-e: Smell the gas!

Quite seriously, there is a long standing problem in Australia where the young (insert politically correct term for the indigenous people) sniff gasoline to the point of intoxication.
  6. Why Level 2 around-town charging is needed...

At taxpayer expense only to be mown down by vandals and copper thieves. I wouldn't either and i really fear that so many will also feel this way that BEV adoption will be slowed and/or limited because I am very cynical about a workable charging solution for the hoi polloi.
  7. Ford Mach-e: Smell the gas!

I'm not so sure about that. Never did an experiment. 2,2,4 Trimethyl Pentane (iso-octane) has a solvently smell for sure but it does not smell like gasoline (of which it is the major constituent) so the aditives in there definitely influence the aroma.
  8. A Really Good Q4 Earnings Call Question

Please don't take this wrong but I have to ask whether you have ever been in a Tesla with FSD doing the driving.
  9. EV sales have doubled. Is a ‘tidal wave’ coming?

Actually it is quite well insulated (U = .257) Anyone who knows anything at all about how to size an HVAC system understands that this is exactly what one is supposed to do. Familiar enough to know how to run a Manual J and direct a contractor as to where to beef up the insulation to get me the...
  10. EV sales have doubled. Is a ‘tidal wave’ coming?

It's much easier to shade the sun than it is to "shade" a cold wind. In summer there is much more sun and, most important, there is, in temperate climates at least, much less ∆T to deal with. For example where I live, near Washington, DC, ACCA uses 52 °F rise for determining heating load but...
  11. EV sales have doubled. Is a ‘tidal wave’ coming?

I'll explain briefly how the wise man sizes his heating system and then relate that to how long a properly sized heating system can be run on 5 Powerwalls. As an example I'll use the project I am doing now which is a 2000 ft^2 garage/storage/workshop building with about 3/4 of that heated space...
  12. EV sales have doubled. Is a ‘tidal wave’ coming?

Afraid the error is yours. Those ratings are, of course, nominal and represent what is required to maintain the house at some nominal temperature (usually 70°F) at the design temperature which depends on zone (or, when an actual calculation is done on the actual location). What happens in a...
  13. EV sales have doubled. Is a ‘tidal wave’ coming?

No need to be surprised as the calculation is pretty simple. Say you are in Zone 3. You will need about 40 BTU/h/ft^2 so for a normal size house (2000 ft^2 ?) that's 80,000 BTU/h which is 23.4 kW. An "efficient" heat pump is 4.1 COP (as required by new regulations) meaning input will be 5.7 kW...
  14. California bans gas-powered lawn equipment and other “small off-road engines”

True enough but it is still doing the right thing. So even though it is for the wrong reason, why oppose it?
  15. Live Tesla Shareholder meeting

Let's take 2 CT requiring 410 Wh/mi. At the wall that's about 410/0.9 = 467 Wh/mi. The average American drives 13,500/yr (approximately) so if each is driven that much you will need 17000*.467 = 12.6 MWh/yr which is 34.5 kWh/da. So you are planning for 2 large BEV each of which you plan to drive...
  16. EV sales have doubled. Is a ‘tidal wave’ coming?

His words from yesterday were "... people need to appreciate that a lot more electricity production needs to occurr as we move to an electric vehicle fututre. For two homes where both cars are electric the power usage will approximately double". He then went on to say that if heating i converted...
  17. EV sales have doubled. Is a ‘tidal wave’ coming?

Confused by this. Do you have a solar driven ammonia absorption system? I don't know what's available but the conceptual problem here is that if you have cold ground water and you want nominal 145 °F DHW the COPs don't look so good and the high side pressures get way up there so while it is...
