KIT UPDATE 6/7/24

After working with Coleton from Out of Spec Detailing on this informative video, he had great suggestions about how to improve the Cybertruck Specialty Kit and we are implementing those changes. The kit now includes more of what you need to complete the application on your Cybertruck.

The changes include switching out the Bar Keepers Friend More for the Bar Keepers Friend Soft Cleanser. We changed this because the Soft Cleanser can achieve a more even finish. However, if you want more of the original “uneven” finish, you can use the More spray. This part of the preparation is up to the preferences of the end user. The most important step regardless of which product you use is to achieve a clean finish. Make sure to neutralize the acids from the cleaners before coating with the Windex.

We are also now including painter's tape to protect the rubber and plastic surfaces and the solvent rated coating tray. Our intention is to provide EVERYTHING you need for the process in one convenient package shipped directly to your home. No running around to multiple stores for the various products.

The Cybertruck Specialty Kit is specifically designed to protect the 30X stainless steel of the Cybertruck. This kit includes everything you need to clean, coat, and protect the stainless steel exterior of your Cybertruck with ProtectaClear.

Includes:
1 - 32 oz ProtectaClear

4 - Applicator Pads (3 large and 1 small)
1 - White Pad for use with Cleanser

8 - Microfiber Towels - 4 Yellow & 4 Blue
1 - 26 oz bottle of Bar Keepers Friend Soft Cleanser

1 - 23 oz Windex for Neutralizing

1 - 8 oz EZP for initial cleaning of the vehicle
1 - 16 oz 99% Isopropyl Alcohol for final solvent wipe

1 - Solvent rated tray for coating application

Painters Tape for masking trim
Nitrile Gloves

It takes effort to remove but that is because it is so durable. It will not ever yellow because unlike traditional lacquers there is no nitrocellulose in ProtectaClear. Usually you can tell that it needs to be reapplied because it starts to look dull. Then you can reapply to the whole truck or just the sections that are becoming dull. If you wait and never touch it again, you will see the metal start to tea stain and tarnish.

With that said.. Everyone needs to understand this is a Clear Coat lacquer being applied to the stainless steel.. its adding a paint layer that changes the characteristics of the stainless. THIS IS NOT A DO IT YOURSELF PROJECT.. you will mess up your truck.. USE WITH CAUTION.

I disagree. It is a DIY project if you watch both the Protectaclear videos and Coletons Out of Spec video. Then practice on the hood and get a feel for the application process. Get this nailed down before moving on. I would add that you should use Coleton’s T method for applying the coating (shown in the DIY Metal coating video). That method will aid in getting a more even coating. All the coatings,, whether it be DIY Metal or Protectaclear or similar, require a certain technique to apply. I’ve seen the coating applied myself and it can be done with good results.

Well, let's clarify.

It is a clear coat, yes, although not a traditional lacquer.
It will be adding a protective layer and will slightly change the finish.
It CAN BE a DIY project if you are patient and meticulous.
You won't mess up the truck, it is completely reversable.
Use with caution, yes, again you have to be careful, not like a wax or something you just rub in. The video I shared above gives you all the details you need.

I bought the kit months ago before my truck. Any chance you can ship the items you updated for the latest kit?

So, I was talking to @Chris9702L today and he mentioned that ProtectaClear kinda melds into old layers if you add more. This had me thinking, could you spray ProtectaClear on? Like plasti dip? Might make for a more even finish. I haven't actually touched it though so I'm not sure how heavy/thick it is

You could probs just buy em separately. It wouldn't be free for ProtectaClear to send anyway

Although you state it in your ordering site, you should clarify the 16 oz. 99% IPA is not included for shipments that must be sent via air.

This is DIY. I just finished and pretty happy with the results. As they say in the literature and videos- Prep prep prep. I took 2 days to get the metal ready and looking uniform. Product application was done in two passes. Each pass was 30 min. Another key point stated in the videos and literature “walk away” when you finish that coat. Put it on, treat yourself to a nice lunch for all your hard work prepping and it should be ready for coat 2 when you get back. Waiting for full cure to see how “tough” it is.
@ProtectaClear if I get scratches and want to touch up a section do I prep with an ISO cleaning first or just apply a new layer?
