I suspect having dozens of electric cars in close proximity made the damage a lot more intense and harder to extinguish though. Particularly if they pack them in the way a lot of garages do.

Definitely food for thought.

Maybe add a self preservation function to FSD.

I remember a recent Sandy Munro video where he mentioned where he mentioned he couldn't get insurance for his building because he had batteries in it.

This is ridiculous. We've increased the safety by having batteries and yet perception is that we've decreased it.

It's nuts.

There's more info about the fire over on TMC.

This is not Gruber's first fire; he destroyed 6 roadsters back in '17. For the new shop, he found a "grandfathered" building that would let him forgo the expense of a sprinkler system. And he was underinsured, according to one Roadster owner's correspondence with the underwriter.

If so, this almost certainly made the damage much much worse than it needed to be. Likely turned a $10,000 fire into a $1,000,000+ fire. Hopefully his mechanics find good jobs.

There were 30 Roadsters destroyed, plus 10 other vehicles (probably old S and X). That's gotta be north of $5M. Ouch.

They are collectable. Every one that burned made the next one more valuable. By the time the last one caught fire, it’s value had already appreciated 50%!
