i found an old bottle labeled cognac in a glass jar wrapped in whats seems to be goatskin, at an estate sale. I dont drink, but I enjoy tasting things... tasted like moonshine, refilled at some point i guess.

Hey, I would be very careful swallowing any unknown old products (cognac labelled or not). If not done properly the moonshine stuff could be dangerous. The first liquid parts of the moonshine process was poisonous. Doing some research on it might help you find out what it was. Goatskin/Estate sale! Could it be rare and valuable?
