it’s almost as if gasoline stations have for a century been designed to be fuel door location agnostic
Cheaper and faster

>>
Unless I'm misunderstanding something Tesla is trying to put in the prefabricated sales as much as possible because they are way cheaper and going in way faster. This was discussed by the head of that area on investor day.

The answer is the same as it is for gas stations. You have excess capacity to soak up those vehicles which will hog extra space.

Cybertruck, and particularly Cybertrucks with trailers are very likely going have the same issue.

You allocate an additional 10-20% of capacity for inefficiency

I believe a large part of the plan is also the semi chargers. IIRC cybertrucks will be able to use the same charging pumps that the semi's use
to control the traffic at those pumps.. you only direct people do em from the API if they are driving a vehicle capable of fully utilizing it.. <trucks with level 4? charging> those will all have to be pull through for the semi's anyway.

I don’t think the Cybertruck and the Semi will be connector compatible. At the semi event it seemed like it, but I think there was a lot of reading between the lines. Cybertruck will have 1000v charging at ~400-600 kW. Semi will have 1000v charging at 2,000 kW. Cybertruck will be cable compatible with v2 & v3 Superchargers. Semi will be an entirely different connector.

The times I have used the local supercharger all but one time it’s always been 20-30 minute wait…examples. We don’t need more door space, we need more stations!

i supose it depends on where you live.. i have used the 3 superchargers near me <with a loose definition of near as most are more than 5 miles away> at none of them did i ever have to wait.. and while charging only 1 ever filled up all stalls.. and that was just a few minutes.

13 supercharger stops on our 2200 miles trip through the southwest national parks last month. Never had to wait, very rarely crowded.

But let's agree to compromise. We need MORE superchargers AND bigger spacing!

We need more of these.
  • Better spacing
  • Works with trailers
  • Agnostic to location of charge port
  • Covered!

*slow clap*

the nose-in stalls just become incongruent with the future, once vehicles of different lengths (to include trailer unknowns), widths, etc., are cohabitating

Other concerns aside... why is nobody talking about this?

Supercharging spaces are already pretty tight and it can be difficult to open doors all the way even in Model 3. Most Tesla users are pretty considerate about that, but given the general inability in the general public (my opinion) to handle simple parking in a lot, let alone BACKING into a spot.....

WE NEED THOSE PARKING SPACES to be about 1 foot wider on new installs!

I have never had a problem with other Teslas at superchargers though I have watched in agony a few times where people who clearly don't know how to drive were backing into a stall next to mine. Fortunately the Tesla stalls are pretty wide, but that may all end with wider trucks like the Cybertruck and Lightning charging alongside one another.

I don't understand the above? If Rivian or similar configured backed in then they would still be taking up 2 stalls (ie. a Tesla couldn't charge there.
