translation: " we're hastening the demise of the ICE."

it has nothing to do with a lack of demand - it's about increasing demand having new factories able to deliver. Does gross margin get affected? maybe. but selling more product at a lower GM still results in higher overall cash earnings.

Controversial opinion.

There is no such thing as a “Luxury Car”.

People pay a premium for some features and for build quality and to some extent, brand.

Tesla brings many/ most of those features to all of their cars and will continue to do so regardless of price. If Tesla ever releases a $25,000 car, it will have most of these features. This is already and will continue to cause headaches for other makers.

There is a post on Lightning forum about Ford opening order to non reservation holders and possibly lowering prices. That may be more good news for CT pricing. If Ford is being surprised by cancellations, Tesla should take that possibility into their pricing strategy (unless Lightning reservation holders are cancelling in anticipation for CT).

You’ve been able to buy Lightning’s from dealers without reservations for the last couple months. A dealer up in Portland has 2 in stock listed at MSRP. They aren’t even particularly hard to find.

That is probably because people are bailing on their reservation and leaving their trucks with the dealer. If that is a general trend of people thinking twice before spending big money on depreciating asset, then CT may see some impact too. Like folks expecting a delivery in 26 May get theirs in 25.

I’ve been saying this for 2+ years now.


The $80k+ truck market Is under 50,000 a year. It’s a tiny market. The people willing to pay a big premium for electric have dried up. The curiosity factor is done and now people buying trucks are actual legit truck buyers who need to justify their purchase.

Not to disagree with the softening of the Lightning market, and effects of interest rates on sales, etc.

But there’s some degree of distortion of apparent availability. Lightnings in a certain stage of the order process show up as inventory on dealer websites.
