Chinese regulators said on Saturday Tesla would ‘recall’ nearly 300,000 China-made and imported Model 3 and Model Y cars for an online software update related to assisted driving, with owners not required to return their vehicles.

The State Administration for Market Regulation said on its website that the move is linked to an assisted driving function in the electric cars, which can currently be activated by drivers accidentally, causing sudden acceleration.

The remote online software ‘recall’ — a first for Tesla cars built in China — covers 249,855 China-made Model 3 and Model Y cars, and 35,665 imported Model 3 sedans.

Tesla, now making Model 3 sedans and Model Y sport-utility vehicles in Shanghai, sold 33,463 China-made electric cars in May, according to industry data.

Sounds to me like China is stuck making crap, even if it's someone else's. Just saying. They generally hack and make crap, because they know stupid Americans buy based on reviews and cost. So, they fake a bunch of reviews and sell it for cheaper by a couple dollars. They aren't used to, for example Japan's culture of quality. In Japan, a poorly made product would shame the families of those involved producing the product. In China, they don't care about quality, and that will never help provide a superior quality product. Elon should have realized this.

Nice article, but what did they have to change?

The update makes it more difficult to activate autopilot. Reported that it was too easy causing accidental activation triggering sudden acceleration.

Too easy to turn on cruise control and/or autopilot...
because making it easy to intentionally turn something on is the most recent version of "unintended acceleration", which is to say "Driver did action, we can show that in the log..."

That they (Tesla) knew this would be a thing with unintended acceleration and put in a very strong and robust way to detect driver input and log it closely, let them successfully defend several law suits/claims.

So, now these people blame that it was too easy to enable a feature. I am surprised that has not happened here.

It surprises me that people think they can 'fool' Tesla about their own cars... (ie, make these claims) and think Tesla cannot prove exactly what happened.

Recalls are for when something was forced from outside as well. So someone decided that this needed changing.

If people are getting into accidents, the UI should be changed.

At least changed so people have to opt into the easier version.
