As long as they don’t regulate autopilot out of existence."Accidents with parked responders" means Tesla hitting a paramedic, law enforcement officer, firefighter or other such responder. This is the kind of investigation that is overall good. Tesla examines a specific edge case, NHTSA gets to do their job about something important, first responders don't have to worry about getting hit by a Tesla (assuming it all gets cleared but the mud has been slung), and owners will feel more confident about autopilot.
Its possible that this is the reason why CT is slated to be released in ‘22 instead of sooner…Federal Tesla investigation to probe 765,000 EVs for crashes involving Autopilot use
The Tesla Models Y, 3, S and X are each part of this formal federal investigation.

Just for clarity."Accidents with parked responders" means Tesla hitting a paramedic, law enforcement officer, firefighter or other such responder. This is the kind of investigation that is overall good. Tesla examines a specific edge case, NHTSA gets to do their job about something important, first responders don't have to worry about getting hit by a Tesla (assuming it all gets cleared but the mud has been slung), and owners will feel more confident about autopilot.
Unlikely…Autopilot technology is still fairly new. Regardless, its well on the way to eventually being an option for all cars, although not right around the corner. As long as they don’t regulate autopilot out of existence.
The CT is not going to be released until Tesla can get (either self produced or sourced elsewhere) the new 4680 cells in volume. Its possible that this is the reason why CT is slated to be released in ‘22 instead of sooner…
Looking for big corporate settlement to the “”taxpayers”” Obama Admin had the same tactic. Back in the tail end of the Obama years we saw several of “the largest settlement/judgement ever against (insert industry here)”. It seems to play well to their base, and it pays back the UAW’s big donations by sticking it to Elon.Federal Tesla investigation to probe 765,000 EVs for crashes involving Autopilot use

Its interesting that we spend so much time debating on what the hold up is. As if there was key missing link in the critical path that could get us the CT sooner. Entertaining this, its definitely not a government investigation regarding autopilot. That probably will take up valuable Tesla resources but its not critical path. I think we all wish we could see the Elon mind schedule but we probably wouldn't be able to understand it.The CT is not going to be released until Tesla can get (either self produced or sourced elsewhere) the new 4680 cells in volume.
There might be other blockers, but so far Tesla's been pretty clear the 4680 is the primary one.
The truck is impossible to build profitably and with the quoted specs without a reliable source for the 4680 cells. Its interesting that we spend so much time debating on what the hold up is.
Why do we need to speculate? What they've told us aligns quite well with the facts available. Musk already said outright in the earnings call what the issue is, we don't have to wait for random tweets.then we can start to speculate on what critical elements are missing and by then we will probably get more random updates from Elon letting us know.
I just have a hard time believing that they would spend hundreds of millions on a factory that would be delayed by a product that they invented. I think the truth is that it takes longer to build stuff than Elon would like to believe. They also said that the CT is just starting the beta phase which means they are still refining the production design. They are not ready to produce it. I speculate they are planning to test the implementation of the 4680 cells in Model Y in either Austin or Berlin before they implement it in the CT. It would be a huge cost for Tesla to make production lines in Austin or Berlin or the Model Y without the structural pack only to change the production line to the structural pack later so I doubt that will happen. 4 months from now when Austin is actually ready to produce something lets talk about what is delaying the CT.The truck is impossible to build profitably and with the quoted specs without a reliable source for the 4680 cells.
Lots of sources suggest Tesla's suppliers are not yet able to manufacture those cells in volume.
Tesla's management has outright said they haven't been able to scale production of the 4680. They've also said they can't start production of the Cybertruck until they have volume production of the 4680.
Why do we need to speculate? What they've told us aligns quite well with the facts available. Musk already said outright in the earnings call what the issue is, we don't have to wait for random tweets.
Even if they couldn't build the Cybertruck this year, every production line they have is being designed for cars made with the 4680 cells.I think my argument still stands that since there is no current demand for the 4680 cells we don't really know what the industry is capable of producing. There are tons of different sized batteries out there with tons of different internal makeup, chemistry and design that all have a demand and an application. There isn't a single production line needing the 4680 cells today.
This isn't politics. As I also pointed out, they're bound by their own regulations to investigate every sob story that has a series of claims....but politicians...
