This will be my first time using Turo to rent a vehicle while my current vehicle will be in the body shop. I'm looking at renting the Model 3, but as this is my first time in EV experience and using turo, I would like some input on your experiences with this platform and renting a Model 3.

TYIA.

Never rented one myself, but if you're just looking to drive one for a while, the test drives at the tesla store are ~45 minutes for free! My brother rents his porsche on turo and he's never really heard any horror stories so to speak.

My wife and I rented a performance M3 a month and a half ago, it was great. Test driving is one thing (we've done that too with a performance MY and MX), but getting to have a long weekend with a Tesla was a much more immersed experience. Taking it to a super charger, getting to see the range impact of various driving styles, etc

After getting an estimate from the body shop, they told me I can drop my car off at 9am and pick her up at 4pm, which makes renting a vehicle pointless now.

This whole fiasco of getting rear-ended by a Porsche back in December and with parts being on back order, now I am back into needing to rent a vehicle since the semester ends later this month and body shop told me that's when the parts will be delivered to them.

A couple of years ago I used Turo to rent a Model 3 Performance. The host pulled up, tossed me the keycard, and sped away in another vehicle. This left me standing in front of National Airport, horns honking, with me going "hey, umm, how does this thing work?" I guess I should have mentioned this was my first ever trip in a Tesla. Fortunately, the controls aren't too hard to figure out, other than "wtf did they do with the speedometer". Not that finding the speedometer would have helped, as I nearly rear-ended several cars while adjusting to the zero-lag and insane acceleration.

Returning it was easy, I just left it at the airport garage with the keycard inside. I did need to take a few photos to prove that it was in good shape when I left it (and so that the host could find it, lol).

As with other "gig" services, your experience is mostly dependent upon the quality of the host.

Yeah, when I rented a Tesla for my spouse, the owner had a checklist. Did I have the specific insurance riders for the states she'd drive through (they knew which ones to look for) and then when they picked her up, they drove away from the airport to give a newbie run-down on the controls and operations, then she dropped the driver off and away she went!

Does each owner have their own specific checklist or does Turo gives a general checklist?

I think it was unique. She was driving through New York and they have stricter liability and comprehensive than California so he wanted to make sure we had it.

It's a good thing to think about. Especially when renting a Performance Model S.

With Turo requirements, I'm only allowed to rent a standard range 2018 or older Model 3. I have no clue about an older Model S.

Really? Not many Teslas over $150k.

At any rate, that's specific to Turo and doesn't apply to self-insured participants on Turo (Commercial Hosts).

I still gotta do research on my end but as of right now, majority of the newer Teslas have the 25+ yrs old requirement, which I believe its the host who have set that requirement.
