Tesla's Coming Lithium Crunch // How Long Can Tesla Continue Growing Battery Consumption @ 50% CAGR? This is the final video of the Global Lithium Supply Chain video where I attempt to answer the question: How long can Tesla continue growing battery cell consumption @ 50% per year?

Note: Yes, the Nevada 'Lithium Volcano' is included in this analysis.
That resource has been known about for decades and Lithium Americas Corporation has been working on tapping into it at the southern edge for about 15 years now. That mine (Thacker Pass) will probably go-live in 26-27' but it's going to be a drop in the bucket compared to global lithium supply and demand. Why did the media hype it? My understanding was that there was more research done on it. But, that doesn't change the forecast because as I covered in other videos - it takes many years to tap into these resources.

Lithium in the McDermitt caldera, Nevada and Oregon
1978 January 1
Anomalously high concentrations of lithium in fluviatile-lacustrine sediments near McDermitt, Nevada, may constitute a potential resource. These sediments are associated with a caldera about 45 km in diameter that is a result of volcanic activity, subsidence and sedimentation chiefly of Miocene age.

Tesla is a drop in the bucket of Lithium consumption. There's no reason they couldn't be out in front of this and not be affected by others attempting to ramp their consumption of lithium.
