Okay, so this is gonna be a long one:
I’m quite new to Tesla’s so for the first week of driving the Model 3 I was getting used to the one pedal driving and timing when to let off the power (gas?) pedal to begin the regenerative braking process.

One day traffic suddenly became pretty bad because there was an accident two cars in front of me so cars came to an abrupt stop and my dumb brain went to "step on the brake pedal" to stop but I instead pressed my foot down on the pedal it was already on, the power/gas pedal, causing me to speed up instead of slowing down, I instantly realized my mistake and lifted my foot off the power pedal and quickly used the brake pedal and came to a stop just 3 feet away from the car in front of me.

Perhaps this is what happened to that guy and he truly believes he stepped on the break but instead pushed further down into the power pedal.

In case you're wondering, I'm doing far better now with the one pedal process.

The main point Sam is making is not so much about the Tesla car and how it behaves, but about the reporting of events that is twisted by a bias media and a Tesla short seller trying to make things bad for our investments into Tesla by making false claims to authorities. (a long sentence!)
I agree with Sam's view here. I do believe that Tesla is doing its best and have proven top records for safety for its users and other around the vehicles.

This reminds me of a kid I went to high school with. He wrecked his Ford Probe by running it into the back of another car because his "brakes failed". He was treated like the victim around school and his parents raised a huge stink with Ford. Ultimately they ended up buying their little snowflake a Mazda.

I lost track of him after high school, but I'm wondering if he ended up moving to Paris to be a cab driver?

Bottom line, it is nothing new that a driver blames their driving mistakes on a car. You just hope that media, parents, etc do their due diligence and not just take the driver's word for it.

Most new cars, certainly Tesla in particular, have an onboard computer monitoring the controls. The facts of most accidents are rarely in dispute.

I'm wondering why there's been little to no updates on the Plaid S "incident" in July. Seems like there's a initial media sonic boom of ZOMG! then crickets.

Like the Texas fiery crash, all kinds of "no one is driver's seat", "self-driving or autopilot" words in all the reports, but finally when the investigation was released (covered mainly in the narrow EV media bandwidth), driver in driver seat during crash, no self-driving, sudden acceleration with loss of control, and possible DUI levels in driver impairment.

So then this Paris crash is evolving with many facets. Apparently, it is his personal Tesla, not part of the taxi company fleet. I can't find if he drove a Tesla for the taxi company as part of his job.

Exactly! I was just adding to their point, that the driver may have been at fault but the media outlets spinning as a negative for Tesla may not have all the details of the incident AND they most probably have not given a Tesla so they unjustly spin these stories into a damaging story.

A lot of media outlets have been doing this since the Model S's early days, they've been painting Tesla's as dangerous vehicles when in reality any other vehicle from any other brand is just as dangerous if not more. Just recently there was a 2022 ICE Honda CRV that caught on fire due to a malfunctioning seat heater.

Because when more details emerge and they don't fit the news outlets' narrative that "Tesla very bad and scary" then they don't want to give updates to their reporting because it doesn't fit their narrative.

I'm probably being a conspiracy theorist here but I wouldn't put it past some outlets having heavy marketing revenue from legacy automakers and being influenced by said legacies to make Tesla look bad so uninformed consumers change their mind about Teslas and EVs to buy legacies more time to catch up.

Or I'm just being paranoid and maybe Teslas = bad is true.....but so far the Model 3 our household owns hasn't supported the "Teslas = bad" theory.
