Good review and sound clip video of the K&N air intake (63 Series). This was on a gas Tacoma, but same applies to gas 4Runner too.

Review by @Drifte:

Installed this intake with high hopes of a clean and easy install. K&N does a great shop in r&d and fitment always seems on point. However, this wasn't entirely the case with this new intake.. I chose it over others for the full inlet replacement. Where those vacuum hoses all tie together is a mess, and the provided hose too small i.d to fit on. Seems like a few small hose clamps should be used here and there but arent. It was also missing a bolt to hold the airbox down. The holes in the lid of the airbox dont align with the airbox itself and took some effort (one shown in first pic).

Once installed it looks very nice, turbo noise in much increased at initial spool up. I like the aluminum flange that ties the turbo to intake they added. I've attached a few images from the process. I'll be looking for ways to better finish the vacuum lines though, those appear like a complete after thought from K&N.

Kit does come with b/w install instructions, the website has them in color. The MAF orientation can be confusing and the wire is a little tight once in place.

2 bolts were easy, the next to were off enough they were very difficult to get started.

I read somewhere that this is actually a downgrade, because the factory intake is water sealed - whereas this one is not.

They use the same stock intake locations. The fender hole and the front intake duct. I don't think there is going to be much difference.

I replaced the prefilter with an acrylic lid, but in general if you're taking in water there you're probably taking in water through the other inlets 🤷. Probably submerged at that point.

I believe the OEM box is water tight, whereas this one is not. I also watches a YouTube video for the installation. It could even affect rain or splashing, not necessarily complete soaking.

Cool kit, thanks for showing the install.

My performance OCD would have me cartridge-roll port matching or adjusting the mounting holes in the K&N turbo velocity-stack air horn to the turbo inlet so there is no sharp lip anywhere….
