Cars are the new phones. Look no further than CES 2022 in Las Vegas. Many of the cool announcements at the consumer electronics show are all about a cutting-edge technology: the automobile.

Take Sony (ticker: SONY). It makes movies and PlayStation gaming systems. Now it wants to make electric cars. The company showed a concept SUV at CES. For starters, showing a concept car is a very auto show thing to do. Second, Sony isn’t a car company yet.

CES 2022: Doosan Bobcat Unveils Smart All-Electric Compact Track Loader
Operators can use a two-way telematics platform to tune the T7X remotely

Construction equipment manufacturer Doosan Bobcat unveiled an all-electric compact track loader at CES 2022.

The Bobcat T7X is battery-powered and operates with zero emissions, reduced sound levels, and limited vibrations.

The unit automatically backs off power when not needed to preserve energy and uses only one quart of eco-friendly coolant compared to 57 gallons of fluid in its diesel/hydraulic equivalent model, the Korean company suggests.

Joel Honeyman, VP of global innovation at Doosan Bobcat, called the machine “a technological feat for Bobcat and for the entire industry.”

“We challenged the status quo to deliver a connected, all-electric machine designed for power and performance that previously was not possible,” he said. “ We are excited to share this advancement with the world and proud of the hard work that has gone into making this a reality.”

The T7X’s 62-kW lithium-ion battery comes from Green Machine Equipment and is capable of up to four hours of continuous operation.

The loader also boasts two-way telematics communications, providing operators with data about the performance of the machine.

The platform allows the user to utilize the data to tune the machine to job specifications, the company suggested.

As well as tuning performance, operators can use the T7X’s smart capabilities to upgrade product features – including variable drive speed at full torque.

During its CES slot, Doosan Bobcat announced a strategic partnership with South Carolina-based Sunbelt Rentals, a rental equipment company.

The partnership will see Sunbelt commit to investing in a large fleet of T7Xs in North America. These will be co-branded and made available later this year.

Doosan Infracore bought Bobcat from Ingersoll Rand in 2007 and Hyundai Heavy Industries bought Doosan Infracore in August, 2021 and is a subsidiary of the new Hyundai Genuine group.

The T7X's battery and battery management was developed in partnership with Green Machine https://viridiparente.com/about and the electric actuators and drive motors were developed in cooperation with MOOG https://www.moog.com/

That's pretty cool. I've always loved operating small skid steer front end loaders. They didn't say it directly, but kind of implied there was no hydraulics, which if true, is cool, but one drawback is there are many many options/attachments for current hydraulic powered skid steers that would have to be redesigned as electric. If this takes off it would only be a short term problem, plus electric power accessories could be more versatile. Large light attachment, Heater attachment, laser cannon... Sorry, started dreaming.

Also, in the video @ 10:50 and @ 14:00 Chairman and CEO of MOOG goes into more detail.
