ARPANET? Maybe we should go to the origins of telephone, electricity? Tesla didn't make 100k Model S because they saw an opportunity of a 7.5k tax credit. Both Tesla and PayPal were created by private capital looking for a profit, how can you dispute that? Socialism as an idea actually always failed.
But I am not worshipping the extremes of capitalism. I am sure it was rough for people in the beginning of the 20th century, I wasn't then, wasn't here. Nevertheless I believe I am in a position to bash the pure socialism as much as I like, as I have experienced it first hand.
Oh and I forgot carbon offsets that Tesla sells....

Iā€™ll take capitalization any day over socialism, if we just had a flat tax for corporate and individuals with no other incentives, the government would have more capital. I know this would never get passed by politicians though.
Because a flat tax is unfair. Why should a poor person who doesn't own a house pay the same rate as a rich person who owns 5 houses that all get police and fire protection? Even a progressive tax can be unfair, for instance a person living in Manhattan must make 3x as much as a person living in Cleveland for the same lifestyle. The New Yorker pays much more in taxes and doesn't qualify for the tax checks the government sends out but the Cleveland guy who pays less gets the full check. They have the same rate so essentially that is a flat tax as viewed with just them.

That's because it wouldn't work.

Because of 'marginal utility' flat taxes are inherently unfair. What someone spends on food, housing doesn't increase proportional to their income. Even if it did, there's a minimum that can be spent.

I come to this forum to discuss subjects related to the Cybertruck but from time to time I see discussions started on political and economic systems. I made a mistake today to engage in such a discussion. In order to keep this forum cleaner, I will remove my such commentary. I am not expecting for others to do the same, it's your choice.

I agree and disagree. We live in a time where people spew out untruths as truth. If no one stands against them then whatever they said might be taken as truth simply because there was no challenge. I was not paying attention to the topic you are referring to but think there are times when we have to respond...and try to get it off stage as quickly as possible.

but that economic model has been modified toward socialism for 50 years already
Can't argue there.

Karl Marx said that the end result of capitalism is communism.
In a the U.S. form of government that would be decided by the people, supposedly. So it's not inevitable.

My beef with UBI is that it is a bandage on a problem to try and sustain capitalist economy.
You wouldn't be here discussing Cybertruck without the capitalist economy. How do you think Elon Musk was able to build the CT? And how would you have been able to afford it?

A flat tax doesn't imply a poor person(you have to define what level of income constitutes poverty level) will pay any tax.

Marx was not talking about government. He was talking about economics.

Hmmmm.... You only used 2 capital letters. That seems low for someone who has a stated preference for capitalization.

Iā€™m not sure how socialism works as an alternative though. Maybe all those lower case letters in a large group are expecting shared consideration on par with the capital letters?

True, people have been complaining about the machines forever and it has always worked out that it actually create more jobs.... but this time is different. There are levels of automation and historically automation replaced physical labor and the replacement jobs created were mental... this time the machines think, what will people do?
